  • Whole Wheat Bread

Dewey Lucero, founder of Wild Groves, shares his holiday traditions with us this year!

The Luceros insist on always having good wine, cheeses, meats, and other local specialties on hand for easy entertaining. They created a selection of gourmet accompaniments to elevate any gathering.

Dewey explains, “We are foodies, love to cook, and love to create feasts for our big family. Every Thanksgiving, my mom makes a huge batch of her incredible homemade buns that we dip in olive oil. And, of course, we have great wine flowing throughout the festivities. I’m excited to share Domaine Carneros sparkling with the family this year.”

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 cup hot water
  • 2/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2/3 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • about 12 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3 tablespoons yeast

Instruction

In an extra large bowl mix warm water, yeast, honey, olive oil, salt, and 4 cups of whole wheat flour.

Mix in the remaining 4 cups of whole wheat flour.

Clear space on the counter to knead the dough. Spread some olive oil on the counter and on your hands, and transfer dough from bowl to the counter. Knead with whole wheat flour until not real sticky - just pulling away from the counter, but still sticky to touch. This may take an additional 2 cups of whole wheat flour.

Divide the dough into either 4 loaf pans that are oiled, or form into rolls and place onto an oiled cookie sheet. Let the dough rise for about 30 minutes.

Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.

Bake the bread for 35 minutes.

Serve with your favorite Wild Groves Olive Oil and Domaine Carneros Wines!
