Ron planted Wente clone Chardonnay in 1983 with budwood sourced from Buena Vista. The fruit is as good now as it was then. So good in fact, that when André Tschelistcheff purchased the grapes back in the late 80’s he declared them his best Chardonnay. We are proud to release the sixth vintage of this Single Vineyard Chardonnay with grapes from Ron’s historic and pedigreed site. Available at the winery, only 86 cases were produced and the rest of the grapes can be found in our 2016 Le Rêve Blanc de Blancs.
The palate offers lemon pith, lychee fruit, macadamia nut and beeswax. Underlying the surface there is a slight flintiness and a wisp of burnt matchstick. Modest ripeness eliminates any heat on the finish from excess alcohol. Respectful treatment in the cellar allows the varietal character of old vine Chardonnay to enjoy the spotlight.
Varietal: 100% Wente Clone Chardonnay
