Lawler Ranch vineyard was planted in 1990 and then grafted to Dijon Clones in 2004. The vineyard is quite mature now and the grapes ripen on their own schedule in the cool breezes off the San Pablo Bay. The inaugural release is a classic combination. Anchoring the blend is "Dijon 115" at 42% of the blend. 115 typically brings high toned blue fruits to the flavor profile. "Dijon 777", the triple seven, is perhaps the most savory of the clones supplying ample tannin at 41% of the blend. Finally, "Dijon 667" at 17% offers delicate notes of spice. The blend enjoyed a full fifteen months of barrel age; 55% newly coopered French oak.
Bergamot tea, leather and tobacco leaf are all featured in the nose. There are additional notes of orange peel and rose petal. The wonderfully low alcohol content allows the supple body of the wine to express itself.
