  • Hugo Spritz cocktail with mint and lemon

Summer days call for a spritz in hand! Meet Hugo, our new favorite warm-weather sparkling cocktail.

The it-spritz of the season features our brisk, balanced Ultra Brut, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, and the ultimate garnishes. Follow our recipe and tips for the perfect pour.

The key to the drink is the garnish, a large bouquet of mint sprigs perched above the drink. This results in a heady perfume of mint with each sip, affecting how the cocktail tastes, and magnifying the cooling effect of the Hugo Spritz. Finally, a lemon wheel provides just a touch of aromatic citrus oils and a suggestion of tartness to bring the cocktail into balance.

Ingredients

Yields: 1 cocktail

  • 1/2 ounce elderflower liqueur, such as St-Germain
  • 1 sprig mint, plus 2-3 sprigs for garnish
  • 4 ounches of Domaine Carneros Ultra Brut, chilled
  • 1 ounce club soda or seltzer
  • Lemon wheel for garnish

Instruction

1) Strip the leaves off one mint sprig. Lightly slap the leaves in the palm of your hand to release the oils, add to a chilled white wine glass.

2) Fill the glass with ice, then add in the St. Germain, chilled Ultra Brut and seltzer. Stir briefly to combine.

3) Garnish by placing a lemon wheel into the glass, alongside a bouquet of 2–3 additional mint sprigs.
