I’m writing to you from Reims, France, Champagne’s unofficial capital.
I am two days into a seven-day journey through Champagne and Burgundy, two of France’s most storied wine regions. I am joined by a small group of Château Society members and our friends from Modern Adventure Travel, and I wanted to take you along for a little travel adventure with us.
This trip reminds me why we do what we do at Domaine Carneros. Making sparkling wine the way we do is incredibly labor intensive, from hand harvesting through tirage, riddling, and the requisite minimum three years aging, but experiencing the wines that inspire us, in the place they were made, was truly special and gives significance to what we do at Domaine Carneros.
We enjoyed a tasting in the ancient chalky cellars and felt, as I always do here, both humbled and inspired. Lunch at The Château de la Marquetterie, the 18th century estate that served as the architectural inspiration for our Château tied our legacies together in a meaningful way.
It’s “National Bubbly Day” and I hope there's something sparkling in your glass. Let’s take the opportunity to share a collective toast and cheers to our next adventures together.
