Roses from the garden, rosé from the vineyard.

The Rosé Ritual pairs 8Days Botanicals’ farm-grown body care with Domaine Carneros’ Brut Rosé for an evening of rest. Founder of 8Days, Rose Leshner, custom-tailored the set to be enjoyed as a ritual.

In many traditions, the rose has long been considered a flower of the heart. It’s a flower that Rose works with often, and yes, the name is a happy coincidence. “I didn’t necessarily plan for my name to be such a namesake for our most popular products,” she told us, laughing. “My parents really nailed it.”

Rose describes the flower as having “a similar frequency as the heart,” and she blends it with grounding notes like sandalwood to help “bring you into the present moment.”

Many people turn to the rose in times of grief and change. It has also been linked for centuries with love and abundance, a reminder that there is enough to go around.

Fall and Winter are natural times for this kind of reflection. As the days grow shorter and the year draws to a close, the holidays invite us to gather, give and celebrate. A rose-filled bath offers a quieter counterpart, a moment to release the emotions the past year and begin the new one with an open heart.

1. Make the Time

The most difficult part of any ritual is giving yourself permission to begin. Rose founded 8Days Botanicals on the belief that self-care deserves a place in your life “even more than you think it should.” Set aside an evening and honor it as you would any other commitment.

Several hours in advance, place the Brut Rosé in the refrigerator to chill. When the time comes, set your phone to Do Not Disturb and play soft music or a guided meditation of your choosing. We recommend the Open and Insight Timer apps. Then place your phone well out of reach.

2. Set the scene

2. Set the scene

Mist the bathroom with the Love Spray, a soft, milky damask rose water layered with rose absolute and sandalwood.

A single fragrance, “can bring you back to a moment instantly, sometimes one you’d even forgotten.” Tonight you are creating a new association, so that each time you encounter this scent, you are gently returned to a state of calm.

3. Light the candle

Beeswax is a natural, renewable wax produced by honeybees. It burns more slowly and cleanly than other waxes, casting a warm, honeyed glow and a delicate natural fragrance. If possible, let the candle be the only light in the room.

4. Pour a glass

4. Pour a glass

Before drawing the bath, pour a glass of the chilled Domaine Carneros 2022 Brut Rosé. Rose calls this step “the best part.” Roses from the garden and rosé from the vineyard are a natural pairing.

Watch the fine bubbles rise in the candlelight, then breathe in. Inhale notes of strawberries and cream, raspberry and orange blossom as they drift up from the glass and mingle with the rose and sandalwood scent already in the air. Your first sip will be dry and bright, with layers of peach, pie crust and ginger and a warm, toasty finish that comes from years of aging on the lees. Made in the méthode traditionnelle from our estate-grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this wine is best savored slowly.

6. Sink in

Add a generous handful of bath soak to the warm water. The blend of sea salt, Dead Sea mineral salt and Epsom salt is infused with calendula, lavender and petals from the farm’s own roses, which unfurl in the water. As Rose describes it, you will “allow the little bits of rose petals to float to the surface as you sink underneath.”

Rose reaches for a soak on days that have called for “an energetically big exhale,” when she needs to reset.

If you do not have a bathtub, a foot soak with the salts offers a similar sense of relaxation. Many people find that Epsom salt soaks soothe sore muscles and help them unwind before sleep.

5. Take a moment for yourself

This is the heart of the ritual. Rose invites you to reflect on a moment of self-love, guided by three simple mantras: embrace yourself as you are, accept yourself, and remember that you are enough.

7. Seal it in

7. Seal it in

Step out and pat your skin dry. While it is still slightly damp, smooth on the Love Body Butter, 8Days Botanical's best seller. Rich and indulgent, it is made with six plant butters, including Brazilian cupuaçu infused with fresh rose petals, calendula and lavender, along with rosehip seed oil and jojoba. Rose favors it on her chest, elbows and knees, “really all over, but a little bit goes a long way.” She describes its rose fragrance as “soft, but still strong,” and notes that nothing in the formula is incidental: “Every ingredient in that body butter has a purpose.”

8. Give it, or keep it

The Rosé Ritual is a gift in every sense, whether for the mother, sister or friend who never takes an evening for herself, or for yourself. As Rose puts it, the goal is for people “to feel they have the time and permission for more self-care.” Consider this your permission slip.
